Drawing inspiration from Banjo Paterson's renowned poem "The Man From Snowy River," this series is set against the picturesque backdrop of Paterson's Ridge, a quaint mountain town nestled near Melbourne during the twilight of the 19th century. The narrative unfolds around Matt McGregor, a man of considerable wealth and influence within the community, and a widowed father of three: Colin, the reverent town preacher; Rob; and Danni, the spirited, tomboyish youngest daughter. The story is further enlivened by the introduction of an unresolved romantic tension, personified by Matt's childhood confidante, the recently bereaved Kathleen O'Neil. Having spent a significant portion of her life in England, Kathleen has returned to Paterson's Ridge, accompanied by her son, and brings with her a sense of independence and a free-spirited aura that has rekindled old feelings and stirred the town's waters anew.
