Yet, one woman was resolute in challenging these norms. Eleanor Bramwell, under the mentorship of Sir Herbert Hamilton, felt a deep dissatisfaction. It was after Sir Herbert's imprudent loss of a perfectly healthy young mother that Eleanor resolved to leave her indelible mark on the annals of medical history. Despite being derided by her fellow medical students and subjected to skepticism by her father, Doctor Robert Bramwell, Eleanor soon received a renovated building—a generous gift from Lady Cora Peters—and embarked on establishing her own infirmary, known as The Thrift.
