To bridge the financial gap and prevent a local, destitute teenager from descending into juvenile delinquency, Hetty Wainthropp, a lively and astute pensioner seeking a fresh challenge, resolves to embark on a career as a private investigator. Her decision is met with disdain and disbelief by her complacent husband. Once resolute, she transforms into an unyielding force, and, under Hetty's guidance, the trio sets out to unravel crimes that the local police force finds of lesser interest within their charming village nestled in the picturesque Lancashire countryside.
