1. "True Commitment" (26 February 1996)
In "True Commitment," Kavanagh finds himself in the role of a defense attorney, representing a left-wing demonstrator who stands accused of assaulting a skinhead during a protest march. Initially, the defendant maintains his innocence, attributing the incident solely to his own actions. However, upon learning that his well-to-do girlfriend had betrayed him by turning him in to the police, he shifts his narrative, asserting that his actions were motivated by chivalry, with the actual stabbing having been committed by his girlfriend. The Kavanagh couple, who maintain a dual-career marriage with Lizzie working in Strasbourg, face a significant test of their commitment. Meanwhile, Kate departs for Cambridge, and Lizzie is delighted to discover that her tutor is the husband of a childhood confidante. Her joy turns to dismay, however, upon discovering that her daughter and the tutor are involved in an affair, a revelation that leaves Kavanagh in a state of shock. And has Jeremy finally discovered the essence of true love?

2. "Men of Substance" (4 March 1996)
In "Men of Substance," Kavanagh takes on the role of a prosecutor for HM Customs, dealing with a case that is far from ordinary. Despite the seizure of 15 kilograms of heroin concealed within condemned meat, there is a lack of tangible or forensic evidence connecting the drugs to any of the suspects. One of the accused, Kevin Gregson, has a history of witness intimidation in previous cases and appears to be following a familiar pattern when Kavanagh and his wife are threatened. Kavanagh harbors doubts that the situation is as straightforward as the evidence suggests.

3. "The Burning Deck" (11 March 1996)
In "The Burning Deck," Kavanagh is tasked with defending Lieutenant Ralph Kinross RN, who is accused of igniting a fire in a military barracks. His co-defendant is Jones, a childhood friend and fellow sailor in the same unit, who had lent money to the sailor whose bed was set ablaze. Kavanagh's colleague, Eleanor Harker QC, is defending Jones while also grappling with personal challenges at home. The defense strategy centers on the influence of Chief Evans, the senior rating overseeing the engineering department and a known tormentor of Jones. In the chambers, Julia receives a marriage proposal, but she must make her decision with haste.

4. "A Sense of Loss" (19 March 1996)
In "A Sense of Loss," Kavanagh represents a teenage boy who has confessed to the police but is now pleading not guilty to the murder of a policewoman. Despite his confession, the boy refuses to collaborate with Kavanagh in constructing a defense.

5. "A Stranger in the Family" (25 March 1996)
In the aftermath of an industrial accident at a recycling plant that has left a young man both mentally and physically impaired, Kavanagh appears in court to advocate for a just compensation settlement on behalf of the victim's family from the insurance company.

6. "Job Satisfaction" (2 April 1996)
Kavanagh confronts the most intricate case of his professional career: a man and his sister are suspected of having murdered their father, a farmer, and his second wife.
