Inspired by the renowned novel by Belva Plain, this narrative spans an extensive period from 1909 to 1959. The tale commences on New York's bustling Lower East Side, where the Polish-Jewish immigrant Anna (portrayed by Lesley Ann Warren) arrives. Initially, Anna toils as a modest seamstress before she is swiftly drawn into an entirely different realm upon becoming the wife of the ambitious Joseph Friedman (played by Armand Assante), who eventually evolves into a prosperous Westchester contractor. Despite this, Anna's affections remain steadfastly with Paul Lerner (portrayed by Ian Shane), the son of a prosperous Fifth Avenue family that employs her kin. In 1918, Anna bears Paul's daughter, a secret that inadvertently leads to a harrowing and often heart-wrenching sequence of events. Decades later, this enigma culminates in the nascent state of Israel, where Anna's grandson Eric embarks on a quest to "find himself." Yet, he discovers far more than he ever anticipated.
