The sitcom "Bosom Buddies" chronicled the escapades of Kip Wilson, portrayed by Tom Hanks, and Henry Desmond, played by Peter Scolari, who were young advertising executives at the Livingston Gentry and Mishkin Advertising Agency. Kip, a talented illustrator with a dream to become a painter, and Henry, a copywriter with aspirations to be a novelist, found themselves in a peculiar predicament when their office building was razed to the ground. Disguised as women, they sought refuge with their colleague Amy Cassidy, played by Wendy Jo Sperber, in her apartment at the Susan B. Anthony Hotel. This establishment, where men were strictly prohibited from stepping above the lobby, became their temporary abode.

In an innovative twist, Kip and Henry concocted fictional alter egos, Buffy and Hildegarde, their supposed sisters, to inhabit a vacant and affordably-priced apartment within the hotel. Henry aimed to pen an exposé detailing their experience, while Kip sought to draw closer to Amy's stunning roommate, Sonny Lumet, portrayed by Donna Dixon, a nurse by day and a part-time dancer by night.

Lilly Sinclair, the hotel's manager, was played by Lucille Benson, while Isabelle Hammond, a singer and model, was another resident of the hotel. Ruth Dunbar, a formidable and sometimes acerbic boss at the advertising agency, was Kip and Henry's nemesis.

In the second season, Kip, Henry, and Amy abandoned their advertising careers to launch their own commercial production company. Ruth continued to be involved, albeit as a somewhat discreet investor and partner. Lilly Sinclair's role in the series was phased out, and Isabelle Hammond stepped into the role of the hotel's new manager.

The show initially aired for two seasons on ABC, spanning from November 1980 to June 1982. However, following Tom Hanks' burgeoning fame from films like "Splash" and "Bachelor Party," NBC picked up and aired 8 selected episodes from both seasons during the summer of 1984.
