In this particular season, the show reverted to the tradition of broadcasting one fresh episode weekly, while maintaining its standard hour-long format. The latter half of each episode was dedicated to showcasing select episodes from prior seasons, as well as certain esteemed prime-time specials that originated in the 1980s. The entire season, in conjunction with the latter half of season 6, is conveniently compiled and accessible on the "Garfield and Friends: Volume 5" DVD collection. It is also noteworthy that this season introduced a fresh theme tune, penned by the talented J.R. Johnston and Neil Panton. The composition was beautifully rendered by J.R. Johnston himself. However, this theme tune was not featured in the international broadcasts, and consequently, it is absent from the DVD releases (though Garfield's iconic quotes are preserved). The new opening sequence incorporated the majority of clips from seasons 5-7, along with a sprinkling from the first two seasons, as well as content from "Garfield in Paradise" and "Garfield's Feline Fantasies." The practice of using the theme tune for episode title cards ceased following the fourth episode of season seven; instead, music snippets from the episodes themselves were utilized in the title sequences until the show's conclusion. Notably, season six had previously employed music from some of its episodes for this purpose.
