Marion Hill, portrayed by LL Cool J, is a distinguished former professional footballer who once donned the uniform of the Los Angeles Raiders. Confronted with a challenging financial situation, Marion is compelled to lease out the majority of his residence to a recently divorced single mother, Jackie Warren, played by Debbie Allen. Accompanying Jackie are her two children, Tiffany, essayed by Maia Campbell, and Austin, portrayed by Jeffery Wood.

Upon concluding the second season, the series underwent a transformation, shifting its focus to more mature themes. Jackie and Austin relocated to the East Coast, leaving Tiffany to remain under Marion's care as she completes her high school education. The third season welcomed two new faces to the cast: Alfonso Ribeiro, a former star of the beloved series "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," now playing Dr. Maxwell "Max" Stanton, and Kim Wayans, an alumnus of the iconic sketch comedy show "In Living Color," who portrays Tonia Harris. Both Dr. Max and Tonia lend their expertise to assist Marion in the management of his Los Angeles-based sports clinic, which he owns.
