Jim Profit, an employee of a multinational corporation, has no qualms about deploying any measure—no matter how despicable—to ascend the corporate ladder. His tactics include bribery, blackmail, intimidation, extortion, and even resorting to violence. Yet, within the company, from the president down to the rank and file, including Charles Gracen, the company's president, nobody is privy to his sinister underbelly. In fact, Gracen holds him in such high regard that he considers Profit a paragon of virtue. However, Joanne Meltzer, the company's security chief, possesses an uncanny ability to detect the malevolent glint in his eyes. When her supervisor, Jack Walters, begins to scrutinize the company for irregularities, he calls upon Joanne to delve deeper into the matter. Initially, the suspect she confronted implicated Profit as the orchestrator. But upon learning of this, Profit managed to persuade the individual to alter their testimony to Joanne. Nevertheless, Joanne is resolute in her belief that Profit is a malefactor and she is determined to gather irrefutable evidence against him. Simultaneously, Profit is on a relentless quest to eliminate any threat—Joanne included—that could potentially unveil his malevolent deeds.
