Gigi Stopper is a spirited, opinionated Texas matriarch, a widowed woman who revels in the pleasures of a robust drink as deeply as she cherishes the sanctity of church. Annie Potts, the actress who brings Gigi to life in the freshman ABC dramedy "GCB," describes her character as "the quintessential hostess with the mostest ... the belle of the ball ... the modern-day Auntie Mame." Over the past quarter-century, Potts has been a consistent presence on television, taking on regular roles in series such as "Love and War" (which earned her an Emmy nomination in 1994), "Dangerous Minds," "Any Day Now" (for which she received Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations in 1999 and 2000), and most notably, "Designing Women." She co-starred alongside Dixie Carter in that enduring CBS comedy, and now, she is channeling some of the essence of her late friend in her role on "GCB." In a video conversation with senior editors Rob Licuria and Chris Beachum, Potts expressed, "Given my profound familiarity with her, it feels very natural to step into this character. She was renowned for throwing spectacular parties, and she possessed an infectious enthusiasm that I've endeavored to emulate and infuse into Gigi's character."
