"Kindred: The Embraced" is an American science fiction television series crafted by John Leekley Productions and Spelling Television. Drawing a loose inspiration from the role-playing game "Vampire: The Masquerade," the series made its television debut on Fox on April 2, 1996. Unfortunately, it lasted only eight episodes before it was prematurely canceled on May 9, 1996. The narrative centers on San Francisco Police Detective Frank Kohanek, portrayed by C. Thomas Howell, who uncovers a chilling revelation: his city is a haven for numerous vampires. This discovery comes to light as he delves into the case of alleged mobster Julian Luna, played by Mark Frankel. Julian holds the title of "prince" within the city, presiding over five distinct vampire groups collectively known as "The Kindred." The vampires thrive by maintaining a "masquerade," blending seamlessly into human society, and Julian rigorously enforces the laws that safeguard their secrecy. Together, Frank and Julian form an uneasy alliance, collaborating to prevent a catastrophic vampire war while Julian grapples with his burgeoning romantic feelings for human reporter Caitlin Byrne, portrayed by Kelly Rutherford.

On August 21, 2001, the full eight episodes of the series were gathered and released on a two-volume DVD collection.
