Ally McBeal and Billy Thomas were inseparable throughout their youth. Ally even ventured to Harvard Law School with Billy, despite harboring no genuine interest in the legal profession. However, when Billy decided to pursue a legal career without Ally, their bond ultimately dissolved. In the present day, an old school friend of Ally's, Richard Fish, offers her a position at his law firm, where Billy and his wife are also employed. This situation places Ally in a precarious position, as she continues to harbor feelings for Billy, while struggling to move on. At the office, Ally must endure the prying and chatty secretary, Elaine, and the unconventional lawyer, John Cage, who appears to have an uncanny knack for winning every case. At home, her friend and housemate, Renée, frequently offers advice on her romantic endeavors. The series narrates Ally's life's challenges and triumphs from her perspective, vividly depicting her innermost thoughts and imaginative musings.
