Jim Douglas, alongside his associate Bo, operated a modest driving school. The centerpiece of their establishment was a peculiar Volkswagen Beetle, affectionately named Herbie—a vehicle imbued with a remarkable "independence of thought." Herbie often found itself entangled in comically precarious situations, leading Jim into a series of amusing and sticky predicaments. Jim's arch-nemesis was the haughty Randy, a former fiancé of Jim's endearing girlfriend, Susan.
