An encounter with a hotel doorman, a man who unexpectedly surfaces from Bess's distant past, culminates in his tragic demise, with Bess immediately becoming the prime suspect. Yet, the mystery deepens as one must ponder the significance of his murder to the mysterious vanishing of an elderly vicar also lodging at the hotel, as well as a series of daring robberies that have plagued the area over the past several months.
