简介:Bharat Ek Khoj (Hindi: भारत एक खोज, Urdu: بھارت ایک کھوج, English: The Discovery of India) is a 53-episode Indian historical drama series, meticulously crafted to delve into the annals of India's rich 5,000-year history, from its nascent origins to the dawn of independence in 1947. This masterful series, directed, penned, and produced by the celebrated Shyam Benegal, in collaboration with the cinematographer V. K. Murthy, was first brought to life on the screens of the state-owned Doordarshan in 1988. The script was further honed by Benegal's frequent collaborator, Shama Zaidi, in a shared effort to bring the narrative to life.
The series masterfully unfolds and meticulously examines India's five-millennium heritage, from its inceptions to the momentous year of 1947, when the nation finally achieved its independence. The ensemble cast is a tapestry of talent, featuring Om Puri, Roshan Seth, Tom Alter, and Sadashiv Amrapurkar. Roshan Seth, no stranger to the role, expertly portrayed Jawaharlal Nehru, a role he had previously essayed in Richard Attenborough's Gandhi (1982). In the drama, Seth assumes the role of the storyteller at pivotal junctures in each episode, while Om Puri delivers the narrative voice.
The series has been previously broadcast on DD Bharati and continues to captivate audiences on Lok Sabha TV.
