简介:The 1990 FIA Formula One World Championship marked the 44th edition of the esteemed FIA Formula One motor racing series. This pivotal season encompassed both the 1990 Formula One World Championship for Drivers and the 1990 Formula One World Championship for Constructors, which were fiercely contested simultaneously across a grueling sixteen-race calendar that kicked off on March 11th and concluded on November 4th. Ayrton Senna triumphed in the Drivers' Championship for the second consecutive year, while McLaren-Honda secured their third successive Constructors' Championship.

The championship was characterized by a thrilling rivalry between Senna and his former teammate, Alain Prost, who had made a high-profile move to Ferrari. Prost mounted Ferrari's first title challenge in several years, propelling the team to the forefront of the championship with three consecutive mid-season victories. Senna, however, mounted a formidable comeback, entering the penultimate round at the Suzuka circuit in Japan with a commanding nine-point lead over Prost. Despite securing pole position, Senna's strategy backfired when Prost outmaneuvered him off the grid; the Brazilian driver then collided with the Frenchman at the first corner, eliminating both from the race and effectively sealing the championship in Senna's favor. This marked the second consecutive year that the two drivers had collided at Suzuka. Senna later acknowledged in an interview the following year that the collision was a deliberate act of retaliation, fueled by his anger over Prost's ability to start on the clean side of the grid and his determination to prevent the Frenchman from gaining an advantage should they lose the starting position.
