简介：Licalsi was found guilty of the manslaughter of Marino and his driver, and was consequently sentenced to a two-year term. Due to his close association with Licalsi, and the suspicion that he withheld evidence that could have warranted a more severe punishment for Licalsi, Kelly was transferred out of the 15th Precinct and ultimately decided to resign from the department. He was succeeded by Bobby Simone, a widower whose former role was as a driver for the Police Commissioner. This arrangement was initially unsettling to Sipowicz, but with time, he came to embrace his new partner. As his bond with Sylvia deepened, Sipowicz even asked Simone to serve as his best man at their wedding.

Following an affair with a journalist who exploited information he provided for an article, Simone embarked on a relationship with another new officer in the squad, Diane Russell. Sipowicz, still in recovery from alcoholism, noticed the signs of her own struggles in Russell's behavior and, after persistent encouragement, she too sought help at Alcoholics Anonymous. Elsewhere, Medavoy's relationship with Donna faltered, in no small part due to the interference of Donna's visiting sister, compounded by his own lack of self-assurance that a woman like Donna could truly love him.
