简介:The 1982 FIA Formula One World Championship marked the 36th iteration of the FIA Formula One motor racing spectacle. This season unfurled its grand curtain on 23 January and drew to a close on 25 September, having witnessed a total of sixteen races. The Drivers' Championship was triumphantly claimed by Keke Rosberg, while the Manufacturers' Championship was awarded to Ferrari.
Motorsport journalist Nigel Roebuck, in reflection, described the 1982 season as "a year marred by tragedy, strife, avarice, yet paradoxically, it yielded some of the most enduring races in Formula One history." The season commenced with a drivers' strike at the opening event in South Africa and was shadowed by a partial boycott of the San Marino Grand Prix as part of the protracted FISA-FOCA conflict. In the midst of powerful yet perilous machinery, two drivers met their fate: Gilles Villeneuve during the qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix and Riccardo Paletti at the commencement of the Canadian Grand Prix. Later in the season, the championship favorite, Didier Pironi, suffered a catastrophic accident during the qualifying rounds for the German Grand Prix. These calamities, along with several other significant accidents, prompted regulatory alterations aimed at enhancing driver safety for the upcoming season.
Despite winning just a solitary race during the season—a feat not achieved by a World Champion since Mike Hawthorn in 1958—Rosberg's consistency was his key to securing the title, ultimately clinched at the season's final race, ahead of Didier Pironi and John Watson. Eleven drivers triumphed in races throughout the season, with none surpassing two victories, including nine different winners across nine consecutive races. Ferrari, having replaced Villeneuve and Pironi with Patrick Tambay and 1978 World Champion Mario Andretti, still managed to accumulate sufficient points to claim the Constructors' Trophy, despite their profound losses. Rosberg's championship in the Williams FW08 represented the final title for a naturally aspirated engine until turbocharged engines were banned for the 1989 season.
