In continuation of the trilogy initiated by "The Snow Spider" (1987), Nimmo once more taps into Welsh lore to draw parallels between an ancient tragedy and the harrowing trauma of a soldier who failed to rescue his comrades from a catastrophic fire in Belfast. Major Evan Llr arrives in the quaint Welsh village with the intention of healing from an injury that seems to be all but invisible to the naked eye.
