Knowing Me, Know…剧情简介

Amazon.co.uk Review

Ah-Ha! In 1995, Norwich's most celebrated son, Alan Partridge, embarked on a pivotal transition from the radio waves to the television screen with "Knowing Me, Knowing You," a talk show that was as misunderstood as it was groundbreaking. One astute television critic, in a bold assessment, termed it "moribund." Yet, in response, let us ponder the array of remarkable guests that graced Alan's show, including a hypnotist who convinced Alan of his owl-like nature; a US pop diva with whom Alan delivered a memorable, yet off-key, duet with ABBA; the raunchy male dance troupe Hot Pants; the Cirque des Clowns, whose extreme violence left Alan visibly unsettled; and, most thrillingly, Roger Moore, who joined via a mobile phone call from a traffic jam at the Chiswick roundabout.

Steve Coogan's masterful creation faced its share of tribulations later, as documented in the excellent "I'm Alan Partridge" Series 1 and Series 2. However, in this rendition, Coogan basks in the limelight of prime-time television, far from contemplating a descent into "clinical sadness" or indulging in Toblerone bars. Co-writers Armando Iannucci and Patrick Marber meticulously reconstruct the entire fabric of the talk-show genre, lovingly capturing its facets—shameless self-promotion, recalcitrant celebrities, novelty acts, and, above all, the unassailable smugness of the host, blissfully unaware of his own monotony. Coogan's ensemble cast, featuring Rebecca Front, Doon MacKichan, David Schneider, and Patrick Marber himself, deliver performances that are as adept as they are familiar from "The Day Today." The series also boasts impressive guest stars, such as John Thomson, who portrays a naval officer also named Alan Partridge, and Minnie Driver, as a transsexual agony aunt, not to mention Steve Brown's unforgettable portrayal of the surprisingly gay music director, Glen Ponder.

The zenith of Alan's career was reached with his Christmas special, "Knowing Me, Knowing Yule," where his living room was meticulously recreated at Television Centre. Regrettably, and in spite of the presence of Mick Hucknall, the new Chief Commissioning Editor of BBC TV, Tony Hayers was profoundly unimpressed with the show, leading to an encounter where Alan delivered a punch that left Hayers reeling. That fateful event marked the beginning of a downward spiral in Alan's career.
