Deacon Frye, at the helm of the First Community Church of Philadelphia, is tirelessly striving to maintain a strict grip on the church's affairs. Yet, his new assistant, Rev. Reuben Gregory, harbors a distinctly divergent vision for the conduct of their ecclesiastical endeavors. Observing the apparent middle ground between these clashing perspectives, the parishioners skillfully maneuver the feuding figures, ensuring a relative equilibrium in church affairs. Complicating matters further, Deacon Frye's daughter, Thelma, finds herself increasingly drawn to the fresh-faced new Reverend.
