Captain Woodrow Call, having retired from the ranks of the Rangers, now operates as a bounty hunter. Engaged by an influential railroad magnate from the East, he undertakes the pursuit of Joey Garza—a youthful assassin of a novel breed, who executes his victims from afar with a rifle. Accompanied by his seasoned companion, Pea Eye, they embark on a protracted journey southward to Texas, crossing over into the Mexican borderlands. It is here, in the shadow of the past, where Maria Garza, Joey's mother, continues to cast her spectral presence over Captain Call.
